A wonderous day

We were supposed to play golf with my son yesterday, but he had to cancel. And swe had our heart set on a day trip, we decided to drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway and see some places we haven't been to in a while. First stop was Linville Falls. It is such a beautiful place, heavily visited, but awesome. We hiked to all 3 observation areas, than headed on up the Parkway to Price Lake. Looked around there for a bit, then stopped at an overlook and had a picnic for lunch.

Next we went on a hike on a trail called the Rough Ridge trail. It was definitely rough!! Uphill all the way on a ridge of rocks. Part of the trail is a boardwalk they built to protect some plant life, but after the boardwalk it was all climbing rocks. When I took this picture of the Linn Cove Viaduct, I thought of Carrie P. as she has a picture of this as her profile pic.

Then we went to Grandfather Mountain. What a neat place! I am in awe everytime we go there. The owners are making some really nice improvements there, as they should since they increased the entrance fee to $15.00 per person! We fussed about it, but when we saw what they have done we decided it was well worth it. They have some bears, deer, otters, and some eagles (which they keep there as they were shot by stupid hunters out west so that they can't fly!!) in natural habitat settings. Then there is the mile high swinging bridge. It scares the poop out of me everytime I walk across it but I force myself. The winds are so strong at that elevation that the bridge does move some. I just scurry across knocking people out of my way, lol. (Not really, but it's what I want to do.) There are alot of hiking trails there, but we had already hiked 6 miles so we just walked around then went across the bridge.

I need to get some sewing done, but it's hard to stay inside when the weather is so beautiful.
Oh, one more picture of our garden. It is taking on a life of it's own!!!

It's hot!!!

I am so glad that all the rain finally stopped, but now it is so hot!! I don't mind the heat when I'm outdoors, but my old people are freezing all the time. Almost everynight Rita gets up and turns the AC to over 80, then I wake up sweating. Today she goes to the doctor so while she is gone, I'm closing and covering the vents in their bedroom and bathroom so the AC doesn't go in there. Our garage room has it's own AC, so during the day I don't care how hot they keep it in the house (though I don't like it cause the warmth makes the toilets get the moldy stuff inside), but at night I can't sleep if I'm too hot. I think she forgets how she felt when she was my age and still having hot flashes. I have found that the elderly become very narcissistic and care very little about the comfort of other people. I hope I'm not like that.

Yesterday Dave and I wanted to go swimming, so we went to the Arboretum and hiked 2.5 miles to Lake Powhatan, swam for a while, then hiked back. I was tired, but what a fun day!!! We might just do this weekly as one of our daily walks.

On to other things. I finished my June Quilter's Dozen wallhanging. I am finished with all 12!!!! The year went by so quickly.

Now, for some reason, I find myself fascinated by the little mini quilts for doll's beds. I just ordered this bed (mine will have stain instead of paint) from here. I am excited to try my hand at the tiny quilts for it. Fun stuff.

That's it for now. Keep cool!!!

Only 118 more working days til I retire!!!!

Another picture

Just wanted to post another picture, my grandson, Alec, and his family, wife Sarrah, stepson Ryan, and of course Mackenzie. They look so happy. Ryan is laughing, and if you look at the reflection in the mirror, you can see that Dave is there making him laugh. Too cute.

Our garden is growing so fast!! I'll take a picture soon. Hope the corn does well this year. Last year most of it fell over because of heavy storms.

I finally got my June Country Calendar and tea towel for Sarrah finished. I got behind due to vacation, but it was worth it, lol. I am also nearly finished appliqueing and piecing my last month of the Quilter's Dozen, then I will REALLY be caught up.

Rex is acting up today and driving Rita crazy about money. He can't seem to comprehend the concept of direct deposit and thinks someone is getting his checks. He looks so pitifully confused, I feel sorry for him sometimes. Rita was starting to get snippy with him, so I suggested to Dave that he take her to the new Wal-Mart that just opened in our area on Wednesday. And he, being such a good son, is taking her there now. Maybe this will lift her spirits a little. I know I always feel better when I spend some money, lol.

Oh, I got this really cool rain chain for one of the downspouts. It is so soothing to watch.

Will check in later. Friday is "do laundry and get psyched up for a weekend of work" day. So that's what I'm doing.

Meet Mackenzie

We're in Winona Minnesota visiting my grandson, Alec, and meeting his wife Sarrah, my 2 year old new great grandson, Ryan, and my new great granddaughter, Mackenzie. It has been an awesome trip and I am going to hate leaving them on Sunday. Just wanted you to see a picture of the baby. I will post pictures of the rest after we get home.

We plan to stop and spend the day in Paducah on the return trip so I'm saving my money for that, lol.
.
More later.
