Handyman Gil

One of my neighbors is a handyman and is doing some work for us. He is a nurse at my hospital as well. So, while he was working, I made him a tea towel. The figure is from his business card and was originally drawn by his late father. (Card below). I think it's cute, even though I forgot to reverse it before I traced it. It was fun!!

Design Wall Monday

OK. Here's what is on my design wall. I have had the song "Blackbird" by McCartney/Lennon in my head for a while, purchased the sheet music to play on my psaltery, then made these blackbird blocks. I need more of the blue fabric though.

Also, here's a seat cushion with hanging sides that is used for retreats, classes etc. A friend of mine (Lura Romei) designed this, and almost all of us in her group made one. It is really nice, and not too hard.I got the prequilted fabric from Joann's with the 50%off, so it was also fairly reasonably priced.

Now we're off to the beach for a couple of days. Taking MIL along, she hasn't been on a trip for at least 10 years, so with FIL in the nursing home, she can finally go. Hope she has a good time.

Later,

Maya Angelou

I just love Maya Angelou. She is so insightful, and so wise. I find that people sometimes hold on to the past so hard that they can't seem to be able to enjoy the present, or look forward to the future. Everything that happens to us throughout our lives, good and bad, makes us who we are. Just wanted to share this quote from her, especially the words in red.

"I don't know if I continue, even today, always liking myself. But what I learned to do many years ago was to forgive myself. It is very important for every human being to forgive herself or himself because if you live, you will make mistakes- it is inevitable. But once you do and you see the mistake, then you forgive yourself and say, 'well, if I'd known better I'd have done better,' that's all. So you say to people who you think you may have injured, 'I'm sorry,' and then you say to yourself, 'I'm sorry.' If we all hold on to the mistake, we can't see our own glory in the mirror because we have the mistake between our faces and the mirror; we can't see what we're capable of being. You can ask forgiveness of others, but in the end the real forgiveness is in one's own self. I think that young men and women are so caught by the way they see themselves. Now mind you. When a larger society sees them as unattractive, as threats, as too black or too white or too poor or too fat or too thin or too sexual or too asexual, that's rough. But you can overcome that. The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself. If we don't have that we never grow, we never learn, and sure as hell we should never teach.”

It's a ladie's prerogative, right???

OK, so I miss checking into my blog, so I have decided to use this as my place to share my projects. Someone on another blog posts what is on their design wall every Monday. I think that's a good idea!! Then I will just post the links in my groups to see what I have done instead of trying to post in 3 or 4 different places. To catch up, I have pictures of my October Country Calendar, and an October tea towel.Oh, and my October Table runner of the month, and a mini quilt I did for a doll quilt swap on About.com. I think that's enough for now.

(I just noticed that I forgot to embroider the vine on the Country Calendar, lol. I'll do it later!!)

No more blogging

For some reason I have been very lax, even bored, with trying to come up with what to put on this page. So, I won't be blogging anymore. I like to keep this page open though, just to be able to watch and follow the blogs I like to read. So, you all keep it up with all your patterns and tutorials, I'll be looking for them. I will post my quilt pictures on facebook, or on the forums to which I belong (Quilting Bee and ABC Quilters, about.com), or if I know you personally, I will send pics via email.

It was a fun venture, but alas, I am no longer a blogger.
Luck to you all.
