My First Giveaway

So it's here, my 135th post. And my first giveaway. I mentioned in yesterday's entry that I was doing this to increase my own luck with giveaways. It wasn't 10 minutes after I made that post that I was notified that I had won a drawing for 36 awesome blocks and some coordinating fabric from a challenge on The Quilting Bee Forum. I was floored. So now I happily pass on my luck.

Here's the book I am giving away.

It is a really cute book but I think a bit out of my sewing scope. It has very cute patterns for boys and girls, and full size patterns.  I just bought it last week, so I hope someone likes/wants it. Tell your friends, though the fewer people who know, the better your chances, lol.

To enter, just leave a comment on this post. (If you are an anonymous, be sure to leave your email address so I can find you...)  I will pick a winner Monday morning.
This is fun!!!

Geez...

Well, this might be the easiest giveaway ever, lol. Might just have to go eeny meeny miney moe, lol. Or flip a coin. Oh well, I really want to give away the brand new book, so I will post the giveaway with my next post.

Went up on the Parkway yesterday, the leaves are just about gone due to the rain and wind. Sigh. Another beautiful Fall gone. It was really pretty until you got to the highest elevations, then the fog set in. You can see in this picture how low the clouds were. No rain though. And the sun on the valley was beautiful.

Ok. The giveaway will be my next post. I sure hope someone wants this book.

132 posts and future giveaway

Just checked to see how many posts I have done, and it said 132. I have decided that on my 135th post, I will have my first giveaway. Why? Well, I have never won a giveaway online, (nope, not even once!!), and thought maybe if I give something away, it will improve my luck. Ya think?? Never hurts to try.

I have 2 very young great granddaughters, and 2 very young great grandsons, and I have been trying to make items of clothing for them just for fun. I saw this book on another site and just had to buy it. Well, needless to say, I should have had a better look inside cause this stuff is a little more than I want or need. So, the book will be given away to some lucky person.

The name of the book is Sew Tina.

So, stay tuned cause this post is 133, only 2 more and the giveaway will happen.

I only bought a little bit.....

Went for a hike up on the parkway today. Was a beautiful day to be sure. We went to see Crabtree Falls which was about a 3 mile loop (we parked outside the park and walked in), marked strenuous!! Had a picnic after the hike, then stopped at Altapass Orchard and bought some apples, cider, and of course some fudge. On the way home we drove right past a quilt shop so I just had to stop. Only bought 2 things.

This little kit for a Patchabilities wall hanging. They are so cute! Dave saw this and MADE me buy it, lol.  Here's the pattern inside. These are so fast and fun.

They also had this pattern for a little dress. They had one made up and I looked it over and am sure I can do this one. Thought I would make matching dresses for my little great grand daughters.

Isn't it sweet?

Now I'm gonna rest my weary legs.

Fiskars Rotary Cutters

While I have been a fan of the Fiskars Brand of Rotary Cutters for quite some time, I am now even more loyal.

I absolutely LOVE the Fiskars SoftTouch Cutters. They have a squeeze handle that automatically closes when  you lay it down. (I always forgot to close the safety cover on the others, luckily I never cut myself!)  Plus, these are the easiest to change the blade. The last pair I had for well over 5 years. One morning when going to cut, the  mechanism that opens and closes the shield was broken. It took me a while to find another pair online, but I found them at Amazon and ordered another pair immediately.

When the new pair arrived, I noticed that the package said they had a lifetime guarantee on workmanship. So, into a little package they went and were mailed back to the company. It only cost $1.78 for postage. Figured what did I have to lose.

Today my replacement cutter came in the mail. That is excellent customer service. I am very pleased.

I am in no way affiliated with Fiskars, I just love this product.

My Last Shopping Spree??

Well, anyone who reads my blog must know by now that I am retiring from my nursing career in December. (I have 19 more shifts to work...). I have been trying to get all of the things that I want related to quilting now, while I have more disposable income. It's really getting close, and I have a feeling that today was my last hurrah, as for the rest of the year my thoughts will be on Christmas (gasp!!!) gifts.

So, in no specific order, I show you some pretty things I got today.

Pretty fabrics. I started with the rick rack, then just had to get most of the rest of the line.

I always wanted a pouncer, this is basically the same thing, but cheaper.

A little measuring tape for my granddaughter-in-law, Sarrah, who is the mother of my 2 great granddaughters, and who never has a measuring tape to measure the girls so I can make them things, lol.  The scissors were just cute.

A book I had never seen....

And the plastic templates that go with it.

A cute little bobbin storage device.

And last but not least....a gift from my sister. She works at a quilt shop and always finds the cool stuff as soon as it comes out. It's a zipper chatelaine. Neato!!! Thanks Roma!!!

So, I'm sure I will buy the occasional pieces of fabrics, cause I will definitely have a little quilting allowance, but probably no big splurges like the last couple of times.

I see lots of scrappy in my future.

I did zippers!!!

For some reason zippers have always intimidated me, so long ago I became a velcro girl. But after seeing the Little Cutie Pouches and the tutorial to make them on Noodlehead, I gathered up my courage and gave it a try.

Well, the first one I made was the bigger one. My practice pouch. It went well, but I misunderstood the directions when sewing the perimeter and did it wrong, so I just had to blanket stitch the bottom closed. Plus, I made the key ring holder a bit too long. But the next 2 I did correctly. And they are really cute!!!!

Maybe I will get adventurous and try a zipper on a larger bag.

What's in a name?

Just a vent for this particular post. Looking for advice. Maybe I'm being stubborn, but I feel strongly about this.

OK, I have a daughter who is now 41 years old. I named her Cari Lee when she was born. But for some reason many many years later, she decided to make a big change in her life, which included changing her name to Carma Haley. We haven't lived in the same area for about 20 years, except for a short time when she moved near us, so we have never known her as anything but Cari. The only people who call her Carma are her "new" friends. So she is asking me not to call her Cari because it confuses people. I told her just to tell them that she was named Cari but changed her name and that her mom and family just couldn't get used to the change. Am I wrong? I don't see a big deal, especially since we live in different states. I don't call her anything most of the time, lol.

So what do you think? If your child decided to change their name from Jim to Billy Ray, could you get used to the idea and call them that?

Maybe I will call her: ❦ (The daughter formerly known as Cari)

Frugal? Or cheap??

A while back my husband and I decided that we had enough clothes in our closets to last us the rest of our lives. Excepting socks and underwear, we are trying to see how long we can go without buying any clothing. So far so good.

But the other day, I went to put on one of my most comfortable t-shirts and discovered I had gotten grease stains on the front. Didn't want to throw it away, so here's what I did. There are the grease stains, right on the front!!

I found a cat design I had used for some blocks and applied wonder under. Then ironed it to the front of the shirt.

Then I machine appliqued it in place.

And now I have a shirt that's like new!!

Did the picture with the timer, and at the last second I realized that I hadn't put on my bra yet, hence the pulling out of the shirt, lol.

I love this shirt.
