Free E-book from McCall's

A free ebook from McCall's Quilting: Modern Quilt Patterns

First, you can go wrong with downloading a FREE quilt pattern, and this ebook has 3.

The first one is called Baubles and Beads, and is designed by Susan Guzman, who I am sure many of you know from her past free BOM projects. This quilt has a beginner skill level, but the finished quilt looks like much more than a beginners work. The colors used are beautiful and bright, but any scrappy fabrics would work. It would brighten up the room of any child or teenager, or even a hip adult.

The second quilt is called Rainbow Rhythm and was designed by Tricia Camp. It too is a scrappy quilt and could do wonders for decreasing your stash. It is for the confident beginner, mainly because of all the dreaded HST. But the directions show the quick and easy way of making them.

The last quilt is called Lemon Squeezy, and it definitely has a tropical flavor. Using many of the popular bright greens, oranges and yellows make this quilt very happy and pleasing to the eye. It is also at a beginner level, but it is done using quilt as you go to give a little more challenge.

This book is well done. The instructions are clear, and the fabric requirements are concise. The beginning quilter will learn 2 new techniques, HST the easy way, and QAYG. And the price is definitely right!! What have you got to lose??

New BOM

I love love love the patterns from Fat Cats, and as usual they have a very cool BOM starting called Who Knows, which of course is appliqued  owls. Go HERE to join in. My granddaughter-in-law loves owls so I thought I would make it for her. I usually take advantage of their free projects, so this time I thought I might contribute to the cause by purchasing the whole pattern. But I still plan to do it as a BOM. Here's a picture of the quilt:

Is that not the cutest thing ever??? So fly on over and get the first installment.

Pretty day today so I'm hoping to go for a nice hike/walk with my friend Nancy. Since the kids have moved in, I have neglected my friends. I am going to try to make a bigger effort from now on.

Late entry:  I was asked to review a free ebook with patterns for some modern quilts. Here is a link to get the free book for yourself: MODERN QUILTS. It is by McCalls Quilting.

Twister Tree

I finished the twister tree from the fabrics and pattern that my son and dil (daughter -in-love) gave me for Christmas. I like the quilt, but there is really a lot of fabric wasted. Learning a new technique was fun though. I quilted it on my frame and did an all over meander. Now to add a label and a hanging sleeve, then put it somewhere I will remember next Christmas, lol.

I accidentally sewed the bottom 3 rows backwards due to the fact that I couldn't get all the squares on my design wall. But Dave says it looks OK and no one will notice.

Still getting used to the little ones being around. They need guidance but not from me!! I am the grandma who gets to spoil them.

Kids and Mini Quilts

My life will never be the same, but in a good way. The kids have landed and my previously quiet home is now filled with squeals and laughter, and whining. I will have pictures as soon as they are all settled and I can get them to sit still, lol.

I did a private swap with a very talented lady, Sharon. We were both in the Monthly Doll Quilt swap, but we never got each other as partners. So we swapped on our own. She makes the nicest quilts and the cutest little matching dollies. See...

I fretted on what to make for her and decided on this one. I made a big one of these for myself a while back and thought it would make a nice doll quilt. Come to find out Sharon is working on a big one also. See Sharon's blog here.

I'm hoping to get back to normal soon. Got one of the kids enrolled in school, one more to go. Then it will get calmer.
